Enter your scores and their percentage weights (totaling 100) to get your weighted final grade.
Enter your assignment scores and their weights (they must total 100%). Returns your weighted final grade as a percentage and letter grade. Use it to find out what score you need on a final exam to finish the semester at a specific grade.
Most courses weight assignments differently: finals count more than quizzes, labs might be 30% of the grade. This calculator takes your scores and their percentage weights to compute your actual weighted grade, then maps it to a letter grade.

Common situations
- Final grade calculation: Check your course grade before official posting using syllabus weights.
- What do I need on the final?: Enter your current scores and adjust the final exam score until you hit your target grade.
- Evaluating grading impact: See how a bad quiz score affects your final grade given its low weight.
- GPA planning: Project course letter grades to plan GPA outcomes across multiple classes.
Under the hood
How the calculation works
- 1Enter your scores (0–100) separated by commas.
- 2Enter the corresponding weights (percentages) separated by commas.
- 3Weights must sum to exactly 100.
- 4The calculator multiplies each score by its weight, sums the results, and divides by 100.
- 5The weighted grade is mapped to a standard letter grade.

A real example
Example: Midterm 85 (30%), Final 90 (40%), Homework avg 78 (30%)
- 185 × 30% = 25.5
- 290 × 40% = 36.0
- 378 × 30% = 23.4
- 4Total = 25.5 + 36.0 + 23.4 = 84.9%
Watch out for
What can go wrong
- Weights not totaling 100%: All assignment weights must add up to exactly 100% for the result to be correct. If you have three categories at 30%, 30%, and 30%, you are missing 10%. Assign it to the remaining category or adjust proportions.
- Entering raw points instead of percentages: This calculator expects each score as a percentage (e.g., 85 for 85%, not 42.5 out of 50). Convert raw scores to percentages before entering: (points earned ÷ total points) × 100.
- Confusing weighted grade with GPA: This calculator gives a weighted final grade as a percentage. Converting that to GPA requires a separate step. Use the GPA calculator for that conversion.
- Not entering zeroes for missed assignments: If you missed an assignment, enter 0 as the score, not a blank. Leaving it blank may exclude that category from the weighting, which overstates your current grade.

Pro tips
- Use it to calculate the minimum score needed on the final: Enter your current scores and set the final exam score to different values (60, 70, 80, 90) to see which final score produces the overall grade you need. This tells you exactly what to aim for.
- Set up the weights at the start of the semester: Copy the weighting directly from the course syllabus. Set up the calculator once with the right weights, then update scores as the semester progresses.
- Check against your learning management system: If the result differs from Blackboard, Canvas, or Moodle, it is usually because the LMS uses a different rounding method or includes a grading curve. Check the syllabus for any curve or adjustment.
- Run a "what if" for the last weeks of the semester: If you have strong grades early but a major final project coming, enter a range of final project scores to see how much it can change your grade. This shows whether the effort is worth it for your target.
