Enter the volume to convert
Convert to mL first, then divide by target unit factorAll volume units are defined by their relationship to the milliliter. To convert between any two units, multiply the input by its mL factor to get milliliters, then divide by the target unit's mL factor.
Enter a volume and select a unit to see all twelve volume equivalents at once.
Convert volume between milliliters, liters, cubic meters, teaspoons, tablespoons, fluid ounces, cups, pints, quarts, gallons, cubic inches, and cubic feet. All units are shown at once. Good for cooking, chemistry, plumbing, and international recipe conversions.
Volume measurement spans cooking, chemistry, plumbing, and fuel. The metric system uses milliliters, liters, and cubic meters. US customary measures use teaspoons, tablespoons, fluid ounces, cups, pints, quarts, and gallons. Engineering uses cubic inches and cubic feet. Converting between these systems requires exact factors that are easy to misremember. A US cup is 236.588 mL, not 250 mL. A US fluid ounce is 29.5735 mL, which differs from the UK fluid ounce (28.4131 mL). This converter uses US customary measures. All 12 unit equivalents are shown at once, making it useful as a reference card for cooking or lab work.

Common situations
- Cooking and recipe conversion: International recipes use mL or liters; US recipes use cups, tablespoons, and fluid ounces. Enter any volume in one system to see the equivalent in the other.
- Chemistry and lab work: Convert between mL and fluid ounces when following protocols written for different unit systems. Both mL and cubic centimeters (1 mL = 1 cm³) are common in labs.
- Fuel tank and plumbing calculations: Tank capacities in gallons versus liters. Pipe volumes in cubic feet versus liters. Convert between them for ordering, planning, and cost estimates.
- Beverage serving sizes: Standard drink sizes: 12 fl oz beer, 5 fl oz wine, 1.5 fl oz spirit. Convert to mL for comparing with metric serving sizes on nutrition labels.
Under the hood
How the calculation works
- 1Enter the volume value you want to convert.
- 2Select the unit that value is in.
- 3The calculator converts to milliliters as an intermediate step.
- 4It then converts from mL to every other unit.
- 5All twelve unit values are displayed simultaneously.

A real example
Example: Convert 1 liter to other units
- 11 L = 1,000 mL
- 21,000 / 4.92892 = 202.88 teaspoons
- 31,000 / 14.7868 = 67.63 tablespoons
- 41,000 / 29.5735 = 33.81 fl oz
- 51,000 / 236.588 = 4.227 cups
- 61,000 / 473.176 = 2.113 pints
- 71,000 / 946.353 = 1.057 quarts
- 81,000 / 3785.41 = 0.2642 gallons
Watch out for
What can go wrong
- Treating a US cup as 250 mL: A US cup is 236.588 mL, not 250 mL. Using 250 mL introduces a 5.7% error per cup, which compounds in recipes with multiple cup measures.
- Using UK fluid ounces in US recipes: A UK fl oz (28.41 mL) is about 4% smaller than a US fl oz (29.57 mL). For most cooking, the difference is negligible. For pharmaceutical and scientific use, the distinction matters.
- Confusing volume and weight for liquids: Volume in mL and weight in grams are only equal for water. One mL of water = 1 gram. One mL of honey ≈ 1.4 grams. For dense liquids, use a density conversion, not a simple unit swap.
- Forgetting to scale all ingredients: When scaling recipes, all volume ingredients (and masses) must be scaled by the same factor. Using this converter for just one ingredient while leaving others unchanged produces an unbalanced recipe.

|---|---|
| US vs UK fluid ounce | The US fluid ounce is 29.5735 mL. The UK (imperial) fluid ounce is 28.4131 mL. This converter uses US customary units. Using the wrong ounce size causes a ~4% error. |
| Liter and cubic decimeter | One liter equals exactly one cubic decimeter (1 dm³). Also, 1 mL = 1 cm³. This makes the metric volume system directly consistent with metric length measurements. |
| US customary vs imperial volumes | The US gallon (3,785 mL) differs from the UK imperial gallon (4,546 mL). US pints, quarts, and cups also differ from their imperial counterparts. This converter uses US measures. |
| Cubic meter | The SI base unit of volume. 1 m³ = 1,000 liters = 1,000,000 mL. Used for large volumes: swimming pools, shipping containers, and building volumes. |

Pro tips
- 1 mL = 1 cm³: use freely in lab contexts: Milliliters and cubic centimeters are exactly the same unit. If a protocol calls for cm³ and you have mL, no conversion is needed.
- Teaspoon to tablespoon: 3 tsp = 1 tbsp: Three teaspoons make one tablespoon. This is exact in US measurements and is worth memorizing for kitchen work.
- Convert large volumes with liters first: For very large volumes (tanks, pools), convert to liters first for readability, then to cubic meters for SI work. A 10,000-liter pool is 10 m³.
- Show all units for cross-reference: The secondary results list all 12 units simultaneously. Take a screenshot for a portable conversion reference when working between metric and imperial systems.
